Contributing to The Teacher

Feature articles
The Teacher is rarely able to publish unsolicited features. If you have an idea for a feature that you would like to write, please email a brief outline (a paragraph or a few bulletpoints) to the editor at teacher@nut.org.uk in the first instance.
Priority is always given to features that support the NUT’s current campaigns, policies and partnerships. We don’t publish editorial features submitted by commercial companies (although we do carry advertorials – for details contact our advertising agency).
Regular items
We welcome contributions from members for regular columns, such as ‘Reader’s Rant’, ‘My ICT favourites’ and ‘My role in the union’, throughout the year. Please email such pieces to teacher@nut.org.uk, including your full name and postal address.
Book reviews
If you would like to review books for The Teacher, please email teacher@nut.org.uk, giving your full name and address, and details of the subject(s) and age range(s) you are interested in.
News reports
Email news reports for the ‘Upfront’ and ‘International’ pages to teacher@nut.org.uk. For news deadlines for each edition, click here.
Photographs
If you are submitting digital photos, please ensure that they are high resolution – i.e. at least 300 dpi at standard print size (10cm x 15cm). Photos can be emailed to teacher@nut.org.uk, but check the file size before you send. If an image is less that 150k it is likely to be too low quality for us to use in print. If the total size of all your attachments exceeds 6MB, the NUT’s email system may reject your message.
If you are sending a lot of photos or the file sizes are very large, it may be preferable to burn them onto a CD-Rom and post them to us at:

You can also use this address if you are sending prints. Don’t forget to put a return address on the reverse if you would like them back.
Freelancers
If you are a freelance journalist, photographer or illustrator and would like to be considered for work on The Teacher, send or email appropriate samples of your work with a CV or brief information about your professional background. If we’re interested we will get in touch. Please note that we aim to use NUJ journalists and photographers whenever possible.
