NUT response - Assessment only route to QTS
In November 2009, the NUT responded to proposals to introduce an assessment only route for the award of qualified teacher status. It noted that the proposals implied that there would be no training element at all for candidates on this route and raised concerns that those who were likely to undertake the programme, in particular, overseas-trained teachers and those working in further education, would still need an element of training as orientation for working in English schools, despite their other experiences of teaching.
NUT response - Inspecting initial teacher education 2008-11
The NUT made a formal written response to OFSETD proposals to reform the system of inspection for initial teacher education and to replace it with a single framework for all types of ITE provision.
NUT response - The graduate teacher programme
The NUT’s submission to the Training and Development Agency’s consultation on the development of the Graduate Teacher Programme called for a series of measures designed to improve the quality and consistency of the programme for all candidates.
NUT response - ITT requirements
The NUT made detailed comments on the proposed revisions to the statutory requirement for initial teacher education providers, including changes to the age range requirements, time spent on school placements and equalities issues.
The Graduate and Registered Teacher Programmes - NUT Survey Report
In March 2003, NUT members who were currently participating in the Graduate and Registered Teacher programmes were sent a postal questionnaire seeking their experiences and views of their training. Over 350 teachers took part, providing a significant and reliable insight into GTRP trainees’ experience of these programmes.
