Nut Cymru Says “Let’s Congratulate, Celebrate And Consolidate!”
NUT Cymru Secretary David Evans today pays tribute to the youngsters and their teachers for the hard work which has led to GCSE success.
He said, “First we must congratulate all those who have achieved such excellent results in, what for many, represents the first big milestone for educational achievement. Most 15 and 16 year olds, who make up the majority of GCSE students, are under enormous pressure to deliver and we must recognise the standards achieved as a major success.
“Individuals, their families, the teachers and schools can rightly rejoice. Too often people seek to knock these results, falsely claiming that the exams aren’t as tough as they were. Nonsense! The standards are as high, if not higher than ever and ever increasing improvement should spark only celebration.
“And we have much to look forward to. Today’s GCSE students are our future. Whatever route they now take, we have to consolidate their success and ensure that they achieve their goals. The results stand us in good stead for the future. We can be proud of our youngsters and the schools and teachers that have inspired them.
“Alongside the GCSEs, we have also had the first results at the Foundation and Intermediate level of the Welsh Baccalaureate. Again we have much to celebrate as this qualification finds its feet, offering our students an excellent breadth and depth to their studies and wider experiences. We are sure that this qualification will go from strength to strength as a made in Wales option.”
