Result of the Political Fund Ballot
Members of the NUT have voted in favour of establishing a Political Fund. A copy of the report by the Independent Scrutineer, the Electoral Reform Services, is attached.
NUT General Secretary Steve Sinnott comments:
"I am delighted that members have voted to establish a Political Fund for the Union. The Fund, once established, will enable the NUT to campaign more effectively against those who stand on racist or fascist platforms during periods of national or local elections."
Annual Conference 2008 will be asked formally to adopt the Political Fund Rules, prior to their submission to the Certification Officer for Formal Approval. Once this Formal Approval is received, the Union will write to all members confirming the date on which the Fund will be set up and advising on the procedure for individual exemption from contributing to the Fund. The rate established for contributions is one per cent of the full national subscription for all members who contribute.
