NUT to ballot on pay

Why do we ballot?

  1. The NUT is a democratic union which consults and acts in concert with its members.
  2. We are balloting to step up pressure to change Government pay policy.
  3. Strike action is a last resort. But we will not stand by while teachers’ living standards worsen and recruitment to the profession wanes.

Fair Pay for Teachers – Continuing our Campaign

SAY NO TO BELOW INFLATION PAY INCREASES

The Government is limiting teachers’ pay increases for 2008-2011 to levels which do not match the current rate of inflation. Teachers’ pay increases have already been below inflation every year from 2005 onwards. This has meant real terms pay cuts – teachers on UPS3 have already lost £2000 and rising. The proposed pay increases are likely to lead to further pay cuts and will certainly fail to restore the pay losses in recent years. Support the NUT’s campaign for Fair Pay for Teachers.
