The day is open to all supply teacher members, with the aim of exploring local and national strategies to support their employment and encouraging supply teachers to become more active within their local associations.

The Union is supporting the People’s Assembly which has been called to bring together campaigns against cuts and privatisation in a movement for social justice.

The Assembly will meet in London on Saturday, 22 June 2013 at Central Hall, Westminster to provide a national forum for anti-austerity views.

The Union is proud to be jointly sponsoring a national Conference on 2 March on the theme of 'Stopping the Rise of Fascism and Racism' alongside UAF, PCS and One Society/Many Cultures. The Conference will be held at the TUC Congress Centre, Great Russell Street WC2 from 10am to 5.30pm. More details can be found on the Unite Against Fascism website.

On Saturday 2 February 2013, nearly a hundred female members gathered at a women's round table event to discuss strategies to increase the participation and representation of women in the Union. Participants came from all over England and Wales and represented the diversity of the membership.

In an upbeat and challenging discussion throughout the day, women highlighted the barriers to their participation and representation in the Union. They also shared examples of good practice where local women’s networks were really making a difference.

Teachers from every village, town and city travelled to London on Saturday 20th October, to support the TUC ‘A Future that works’ demonstration.

Teachers came from the primary, secondary and sixth form sector joining school and college students and retired colleagues. Together they made the case against cuts to education and for a halt to attacks on pensions.

Pride of place went to those teachers from the North West who, despite late cancellation of transport arrangements, made their way to London.

The lively NUT bloc marched from the Embankment to Hyde Park where General Secretary Christine Blower spoke to a 100,000 strong audience.
