Pay and Funding Campaign
Sixth Form Colleges - Action to Protect our Sector

NUT members in sixth form colleges have voted by a substantial majority in favour of strike action in defence of funding and pay.
Use the materials in this section of the NUT website to organise meetings at college and ensure maximum support for the NUT action in order to send the Government and the employers the strongest possible message that teachers will resist the cuts and their impact on colleges.
The NUT’s action began on 23 February, when NUT members in London took strike action. As well as joining picket lines, members attended a successful NUT-organised lobby of Parliament - taking the case against cuts directly to the heart of Government. A packed meeting at Parliament was addressed by John McDonnell MP, as well as by teachers and students. Dates for action in colleges outside London will be circulated soon, along with details of further events for members.
The employers have informed the NUT that they will pursue a legal challenge to the NUT action in colleges outside London planned on the afternoon of Thursday 15 March unless the call to take strike action is withdrawn. Although the NUT believes it has strong grounds to argue that the Union's ballot and call to take strike action are valid, we are advised that it is a real possibility that the NUT would be forced by the courts to suspend the strike action pending a full hearing of the challenge. In order to avoid further difficulties arising from the need to respond to such a suspension at the last minute, the NUT has decided to withdraw the call to take strike action this Thursday. NUT members should therefore work normally on that day. The campaign on funding and pay will continue. Industrial action, with or without a further ballot, remains an option as part of that campaign. Further information will be issued as soon as possible.
A poster has been sent to 6th form college representatives.
